License Activation

Activating a license

Go to Settings → Global → License and enter your license key in the format ROOM-PRO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Click Activate.

Activation requires an internet connection. The key is sent to the Restroom license server along with your device ID to verify it is valid and within its seat limit.

On success, your plan changes immediately — Pro features become available without restarting.

Seat limits

Each license has a seat limit — the number of machines that can have it activated simultaneously. If your key has reached its limit, you'll see an error message.

To free a seat, go to Settings → License on the machine you want to remove and click Deactivate. This releases the seat immediately so you can activate on another machine.

Device ID

Your device ID is shown in Settings → License. It is a random identifier generated when Restroom was first installed — it is not linked to your Apple ID or any personal information.

The device ID is used solely by the license server to track which physical machines have activated a key.

Background re-validation

Once activated, Restroom silently re-validates your license approximately once per day. If the check fails (no internet, server unreachable), your Pro status is preserved for 7 days before the app reverts to the free tier.

If the check finds your license has been revoked or transferred, the app downgrades immediately and shows a notification.

Moving to a new Mac

  1. On your old Mac: go to Settings → License and click Deactivate. This frees the seat.
  2. Install Restroom on your new Mac and activate with the same key.

If you no longer have access to the old Mac, contact support to manually release the seat.

Teams licenses

Teams licenses work the same way but support multiple seats. A Teams admin dashboard (coming soon) will let you manage seats, see which devices are activated, and revoke individual devices without contacting support.

Released under the Restroom License.
